The challenge

A $1,250 tennis bracelet sold from a collection page with almost nothing on it

The pieces were right: certified natural diamonds, solid gold, made in-house. The store wasn’t built to rank for the searches that sell them. About 2,000 people a month found it.

  • Collection pages were product grids with little or no written content
  • Search Console listed 404 errors from removed products and old links
  • “Diamond necklace for women” (12,100 US searches a month) sat at 25
  • “Tennis necklace diamond” (3,600) sat at 53, on page six

Diagnosis

Why a strong product line had weak search visibility

Fine jewelry buyers research before they spend four figures. Google needs pages that answer that research, and this store didn’t have them yet.

  1. 1

Collections with no reason to rank

A grid of tennis bracelets with a heading and nothing else tells Google little about carat weight, metal, diamond certification or length. National retailers with the same products and full category copy win that comparison every time.

  2. 2

No content for the research phase

A buyer comparing natural and lab-grown, or 3 and 5 carat tennis bracelets, searches for weeks before buying. With no blog, every one of those searches went to someone else, along with the internal links that could have pointed at the collections.

  3. 3

Too few links for contested terms

Diamond necklace and tennis bracelet searches are fought over by brands with years of press and links. Without contextual links from relevant sites, even well-written collections stall on page two.

  4. 4

    Crawl waste and broken paths

404s from discontinued pieces, redirect chains and broken links spent crawl budget on dead URLs and leaked the authority the store already had.

The approach

Eight workstreams, run in the order they pay back

Collections and products came first because that’s where buyers convert. Content and links followed to give those pages the authority to climb.

Keyword research and planning

Every money query mapped to one owning page, from “diamond tennis bracelet” down to carat, metal and length variants.

Collection page content

Intro copy, buying guidance and internal links on the collections, written for the search each one should own.

Product pages

Descriptions that separate similar pieces by carat weight, diamond quality, metal and length, so they stop competing with each other.

Blog content

20+ posts in the first months, each built to answer a pre-purchase question and send the reader to a collection.

Authority building

70 contextual backlinks from August to November 2024, and about 30 guest posts over the engagement.

Technical SEO

404 cleanup from day one, then a full audit in August 2025 that fixed 13 categories of site issues.

Design and CRO

New category images and two conversion rounds, in November 2025 and May 2026, to turn the new traffic into orders.

Pinterest and Reddit

Pinterest from late 2024 for visual discovery of bracelets and necklaces; Reddit from September 2026.

Timeline

Two years of compounding work

Early content and links took about seven months to mature. Once they did, traffic climbed steeply.

  1. July 2024

    Account taken over

Keyword plan, collection and product priorities, 404 cleanup. About 2,000 monthly visitors.

  2. 24 Jul to 3 Aug 2024

    First reporting week

6 collection and 4 product pages optimized, 2 blog posts and 1 guest post live. 64 organic clicks in one day, the highest in five months.

  3. Aug to Nov 2024

    Authority push

70 contextual backlinks pointed at the priority collections, alongside 20+ blog posts. Pinterest started late in the year.

  4. Mid-February 2025

    The curve turns

Organic traffic began a steep climb as the early content and links matured.

  5. August 2025

    Full technical audit

13 issue categories fixed, from broken and redirected links to duplicate H1s and missing alt text.

  6. Nov 2025 and May 2026

    Two CRO rounds

New category images, then conversion changes on the collection and product templates now drawing the most traffic.

  7. 27 Mar to 8 Apr 2026

    March 2026 core update

A dip during the rollout, visible in Search Console. The plan stayed on course.

  8. 2026

    Shopify redesign on Eurus

All 876 URLs carried over under written migration rules.

  9. September 2026

    Reddit program starts

Participation in buying-advice communities where diamond buyers ask for recommendations.

What the store recorded

Traffic grew more than seventeenfold and online sales passed $1M. Search Console shows where that traffic came from: 115,000 organic clicks from 12.6 million impressions.

When we started, our collections were just product grids and hardly anyone found us. Now the tennis bracelets and necklaces bring in buyers every day, we’ve gone from about 2,000 visitors a month to more than 35,000, and online sales have passed a million dollars.

Early signal

The first-week keyword moves

The necklace terms moved in the same window the new collection copy went live. It was the first sign the plan would work.

Lessons for other jewelers

What drove the growth, and what you can copy

None of this depends on a big brand name. It depends on doing the work in the right order and staying with it past the quiet months.

01

Collections before content

The collection is where a jewelry buyer converts. Write it for the search it should own before you write a single blog post. Our collection page SEO guide shows the structure we use.

02

Expect a lag, then a curve

Content and links published in mid-2024 drove the climb that started in mid-February 2025. Stores that stop at month four never see month seven.

03

Links point at money pages

The 70 contextual links in the first four months were aimed at priority collections, not the home page. That’s where authority turns into revenue. More on our link building work.

04

Fix conversion once traffic arrives

CRO on 2,000 visitors a month is guesswork. At 35,000 it pays. The two rounds came after the traffic, on the pages buyers actually land on. See jewelry CRO.

2026 redesign

A new Shopify theme without losing a single ranking URL

With traffic at this level, a theme change was the biggest risk the store faced. We rebuilt it on Eurus with the full URL tree intact.

  • 876 URLs inventoried before design: 1 home, 52 collections, 711 products, 19 pages, 1 blog index, 92 posts
  • Every handle, title, H1 and canonical recorded and carried over
  • Collection intro copy moved into the new templates, not dropped
  • Before-and-after crawl compared line by line, then Search Console monitoring
