The challenge
When your own brand name shows the wrong pages
The clearest symptom showed up on the store’s own name. Branded results pointed to a paginated product list and contact pages where the gold chain and diamond ring collections should have been. When that happens, Google is telling you it doesn’t know which pages matter. A drop like this is rarely one problem. It’s several small ones compounding.
- Organic traffic down about 41% at onboarding
- About 9,000 monthly visitors and 2,500 ranking keywords
- Branded results pointing to pagination and contact pages
- A Google Ads account that needed structure while organic rebuilt
Diagnosis
What we found under the drop
Five issues. Each is small enough to ignore on its own. Together they blurred Google’s view of the whole catalog and pushed the store’s best pages out of sight.
- 1
Missing and duplicate metadata
Titles and metas missing on some pages and copied across others, so similar gold and diamond collections competed with each other instead of with other stores.
- 2
Missing H1s
A collection page without a main heading gives Google one less signal about the product and the search it serves.
- 3
Thin collections
Collections that were mostly product grids had too little content to rank for searches like gold chains or diamond rings.
- 4
The wrong URLs on branded search
An “all items page 2” URL and contact pages ranking for the brand name. Internal links and indexing weren’t pointing Google at the collections.
- 5
Sitemap and indexing problems
Google was crawling pages it shouldn’t and missing pages it should. Content work on top of that lands on an unstable base.
What we did
Diagnosis first, then rebuilds, then a staged restructure
Recovery starts with cleanup and measurement. New content comes after the site can be crawled and measured properly.
- Onboarding, 2026
Baseline recorded
Organic down ~41%, ~9,000 monthly visitors, ~2,500 ranking keywords.
- Month one
Diagnose and agree the scoreboard
Search Console review, sitemap and indexing cleanup, branded results review, and a 40-keyword target set agreed with the client.
- Month one
Measurement and paid search checked
GA4, Google Tag Manager and Merchant Center reviewed so recovery can be measured. Google Ads account reviewed.
- Following months
Pages and authority rebuilt
10 collection and 10 product pages optimized, technical fixes, 20 contextual backlinks, 4 guest posts, 4 blog posts and a Google Ads structure plan.
- August 2026
Restructure on a staging theme
The new structure is built on a staging theme kept out of Google’s index, so URL mapping, redirects and tracking can be verified before the live store changes.
Baseline and target
The scoreboard the recovery is measured against
Recorded at onboarding in 2026. Each monthly report tracks the 40 target keywords and organic traffic against this baseline.

Monthly visitors

We knew traffic had fallen but not why. Seeing our own brand name return a page-two product list and our contact page made it obvious. Within the first month we had the causes in writing, the indexing cleaned up and forty keywords we both measure progress against.

What’s next
The restructure goes live only after it’s proven on staging
In August 2026 we began rebuilding the store’s structure on a staging theme kept out of Google’s index. Nothing reaches the live store until the checks below pass.
- Every live URL mapped to its new home, with one-to-one 301s and no redirects to the home page by default
- Gold chain, diamond ring and platinum collections planned with clear titles, H1s and intro copy
- Internal links and navigation pointed at the collections, not pagination or contact pages
- GA4, Google Tag Manager and Merchant Center tested on staging before launch
- A Google Ads structure plan built around the same collections, so paid and organic report on the same pages
Lessons for other jewelers
If your organic traffic has dropped, start here
Most jewelry stores that contact us aren’t starting from a clean slate. These are the decisions that shape the first months of a recovery.
01
Check your branded results first
Search your own store name. If pagination, contact or policy pages show where collections should be, internal links and indexing are pointing Google the wrong way. It’s often among the fastest problems to fix.
02
Agree a fixed keyword set
Traffic alone can’t tell you whether a recovery is working, because seasonality and branded demand move it too. Forty commercial keywords agreed up front give you and your agency the same scoreboard.
03
Clean up before you publish
Indexing, metadata and H1s come before new content. Content published on a site Google can’t crawl properly lands on an unstable base.
04
Restructure on staging
A structural change goes live only after URL mapping, redirects and tracking are verified on a noindexed staging theme. Our gold jewelry SEO and technical SEO pages cover the approach; paid search runs under Google Ads for jewelers.
