The short answer
What jewelry website design has to get right
Jewelry website design is the work of building a store that presents high-value pieces clearly, answers a buyer’s trust questions where they arise, loads fast with heavy photography and gives Google clean pages to rank.
A buyer about to spend thousands on a piece they can’t hold checks things a clothing shopper never does. Which lab certified the diamond. What happens if the ring doesn’t fit. Whether the package ships insured. Whether they can see it in person first. A site that answers those in a footer link loses the sale to the tab that answers them beside the price.
We write those answers into the templates before anyone opens a design tool, together with the SEO and tracking requirements for each page. The visual design then makes them feel at home in a fine jewelry store.
Is your site costing you sales?
- Certificates and return terms live only on policy pages
- Filters are hard to use on a phone
- The main product image takes seconds to appear
- Bridal buyers can’t book a viewing from the product page
- You can’t tell which pages produce calls and bookings
- A redesign is planned and nobody owns the URL list
2 of 6 apply, an audit will pay for itself.
Where jewelry sites lose buyers
Six problems we fix on most jewelry sites
Each one shows up in analytics as a bounce or an abandoned cart. The cause almost always sits in the template.
“Our pieces look flat online.”
Compressed images, no zoom and no scale reference make a 1-carat stone read like costume jewelry. Buyers judge the piece by the photo.
Zoom, video and scale on every product
“Customers email us for the certificate.”
When the GIA or IGI report sits in a PDF nobody can find, the buyer either asks or leaves. Most leave.
Certificate and 4Cs beside the price
“Nobody uses our filters on mobile.”
A sidebar built for desktop collapses into a long scroll on a phone, and the buyer pages through two hundred rings instead of five.
Filter drawer tested on phones
“Our last redesign cost us our traffic.”
Changed URLs without redirects, collection copy dropped from new templates, staging left open to Google. Years of rankings can go in weeks.
URL inventory and redirect map first
“Bridal buyers never book a viewing.”
The booking link sits on the contact page. A buyer comparing engagement rings on a product page never sees it.
Booking inside the bridal buying path
“We can’t tell what the site produces.”
Without tested events, a relaunch shows sales moving and nobody knows whether the site, the season or the ads did it.
GA4 and GTM tested before launch
What you get
Six jobs every template is built to do
Visual design holds these together. Miss one and buyers leave at the moment of doubt, usually for a competitor’s tab.
Show the piece accurately
High-resolution zoom, 360-degree or video where you have it, true-to-life metal color and a scale reference on the hand or ear.
Prove the stone
The GIA or IGI certificate viewable on the product page, with report number and the 4Cs in text that buyers and search engines both read.
Remove purchase risk
Returns, resizing, warranty, insured shipping and financing stated beside the price and the add-to-cart button.
Settle the ring size
A printable sizer, a US and international size guide and a clear resizing policy, so a surprise-proposal buyer still checks out.
Help buyers find the piece
Metal, stone, shape, carat and price filters in a mobile drawer, with collections organized by category, stone and occasion.
Turn interest into appointments
Book a viewing, a virtual consultation or a call from high-value pages, each one tracked as a lead.
Collection and product templates
Templates built as search landing pages and sales pages
Collection pages rank for the searches that bring buyers in. Product pages close the sale. On a jewelry store each page does both jobs, so we design for the buyer and for Google at once.
- A short intro above the grid and buying guidance below it, so products stay above the fold on mobile
- Carat, shape or metal sub-collections where demand exists, instead of filter URLs hoping to rank
- A spec block for metal and karat, stone, shape, carat, color, clarity, setting and certificate
- Product schema generated from the same spec data, so the page and the markup always agree
Variants are a design decision. A ring offered in white, yellow and rose gold should swap the main image and keep one product URL. Three products for three metals split your reviews, links and rankings across near-duplicate pages.
Speed is designed in, not patched later. One product can carry eight high-resolution images and a video. We serve WebP or AVIF at the size each screen needs, load the main image first, reserve space so the layout doesn’t jump and load 360-degree viewers on tap. Beverly Diamonds showed a 100/100 PageSpeed lab score at its February 2026 report.
Redesigns that keep rankings
What a redesign can break, and how we prevent it
A store online for a few years has rankings, backlinks and indexed pages. A redesign that ignores them can erase that visibility in weeks. Every failure below is avoidable.
Critical
URLs change without redirects
Ranked collection, product and post URLs return 404 and lose the links pointing at them.
Every handle kept where possible; each changed URL 301’d to its closest match, never the homepage
Critical
Staging gets indexed, or the block stays on at launch
Duplicate pages compete with the live site, or the new site tells Google to stay away.
Staging blocked from search engines; the block removed and checked at launch
High
Collection copy disappears
New templates drop the text that made collections rank, leaving an H1 and a grid.
Titles, metas, H1s and copy carried across unless a documented change improves them
High
Structured data breaks
Product and breadcrumb markup is dropped, or duplicated by newly installed apps.
Markup compared on staging against the live site and validated before launch
Medium
Nobody watches after launch
Coverage errors and lost rankings surface weeks later, when they’re harder to trace.
Full crawl after launch, sitemaps submitted, Search Console coverage and 404s monitored
Measurement at launch
A new site you can judge from the first day
Too many jewelry stores relaunch, see sales move and can’t tell whether the site, the season or the ads caused it. Measurement goes live with the site, already tested.
- GA4 and Google Tag Manager configured before launch
- Named events for form starts and submissions, calls, email clicks and bookings
- Add-to-cart and purchase checked against test orders
- Conversions imported into Google Ads when you advertise
Each event has a test procedure. We trigger it in preview, confirm it fires once, check it arrives in GA4 with the right parameters and confirm it imports into Google Ads if you run campaigns. A click on a decorative carousel is engagement. A booked bridal consultation is a lead, and your reports treat them differently.
Search has changed
Jewelry buyers check Google, Maps and AI answers before they call
A buyer might ask ChatGPT which lab-grown brands are reputable, check the map pack for a showroom nearby, then search your store name with “reviews”. We build visibility across that whole path.

Gem Jewelers Co.: a Shopify redesign that kept all 876 URLs
Featured project · Gem Jewelers Co.
Two years of SEO carried across a full redesign
Gem Jewelers Co. is a US fine jewelry retailer on Shopify, with monthly SEO from our team since summer 2024. In the first week of that engagement the store logged 64 organic clicks in a single day, its highest in five months, and “diamond necklace for women” (12,100 US searches a month) moved from 25 to 16. The 2026 redesign on the Eurus theme had to protect that progress. Every URL was inventoried, handles were kept and the store launched under the migration rules above.

Choosing a platform
Shopify or WordPress: which fits your jewelry business
Google doesn’t prefer either platform. The platform decides what’s easy, what costs more and what your team will maintain, and those differences show up a year after launch.
Shopify
The right choice when you sell online and the catalog is the business. Gem Jewelers Co. and Saints Gold both sell on Shopify.

Before you commit
What jewelers ask before a rebuild
What asking costs you
- A review before any proposal
- A written scope listing every template
- You own the theme, content and accounts
- Every URL checked before launch
“We just need it to look better.”Then the review will say so. Most jewelry sites that look dated are also slow, vague on trust and untracked. Fixing the look alone produces a prettier site with the same sales.“Our last redesign lost traffic.”That means URLs, copy or markup didn’t make it across. It’s the most avoidable failure in web projects, and it’s the first thing our process controls.“We can’t afford disruption in peak season.”We don’t launch in the run-up to Valentine’s Day or the December holidays. The live site stays up throughout the build, and launching well before your peak leaves time to settle anything while traffic is lower.“Do we have to switch platforms?”Usually not. A theme rebuild on Shopify or a template rebuild on WordPress keeps your apps, product data and order history in place.

Jewelry website design questions
It depends on catalog size, the number of templates, the platform, how much copy needs writing and how fast feedback comes back. A portfolio site for a custom jeweler and a large Shopify migration are different projects. You get a dated plan after scoping, with launch timed around your sales calendar.
Not when the migration is controlled. We keep handles, 301 anything that must change, carry across titles, metas, H1s, copy and schema, crawl before and after, and monitor Search Console. Some movement while Google recrawls is normal. Months of lost traffic is a process failure.
If you sell online and the catalog is the business, Shopify. If the site mainly supports appointments, custom work, wholesale inquiries or a lot of content, WordPress with WooCommerce. If your current platform works, improve it before you switch.
Yes, and it’s often the better move. It keeps your platform, apps, product data and order history in place while fixing design, speed, structure and conversion.
Yes. We integrate booking for bridal consultations and in-store viewings, plus the financing options your platform supports, and place them on product pages and high-value collections. Both are tracked as conversions.
Yes. Shopify builds use editable theme sections and WordPress builds use native blocks and patterns, so your team changes text, images and collection content directly. You get documentation and a handover session.
We can: collection intros and buying guides, product descriptions, the homepage, about and appointment pages. If you prefer to write it, each template comes with a brief so the copy fits the design and the SEO plan.
The foundations are: clean URLs, title and meta templates, heading structure, schema, sitemaps, redirects, indexing rules and internal links. New content and link building are ongoing work under ecommerce SEO.
By scope: catalog size and data quality, the number of unique templates, migration size, who writes the copy, custom features and international selling. We quote after the review with a written scope you can compare line by line. Our jewelry SEO cost guide explains how fair proposals are structured.
