SEO For Jewelry home

The short answer

What Squarespace can and can’t do for a jewelry site

Squarespace handles the technical basics a small jewelry site needs. It generates a sitemap, writes canonical tags, serves responsive images from its CDN, runs on HTTPS and lets you set an SEO title, description and URL slug for every page, product and post.

What it doesn’t give you is fine control. You can’t edit robots.txt or the sitemap, the store’s URL patterns are fixed and the built-in structured data is basic. On a 5,000-SKU diamond catalog with filters by shape, carat and metal, those limits would hurt. On a designer’s site with 60 to 300 pieces, a few collections and a custom commission service, they rarely decide who ranks.

What decides it is the same work as on any platform: a store page structured around how buyers search, product pages with descriptions you wrote, a journal that answers buying questions and a brand name Google trusts. That’s the work on this page.

Signs your Squarespace site needs this

  • Products still use the default SEO description
  • All pieces sit on one store page with no categories
  • Product names are poetic but nobody searches them
  • The journal has posts but no links to products
  • Image file names read IMG_4821.jpg
  • Custom commission requests arrive with no source

Platform limits

Which Squarespace limits matter for jewelry, and which don’t

Owners often blame the platform for problems that sit in the content. Here’s where the real constraints are.

Squarespace limits for jewelry sites, Squarespace 7.1

Squarespace behaviorDoes it hold you back? What we do
robots.txt and sitemap not editableRarely on small catalogsHide pages from search in page settings
Fixed product URL pattern (/shop/p/…)NoDescriptive slugs on every product
Basic built-in structured dataSometimesExtra JSON-LD through code injection
Limited faceted filteringOn large catalogs, yesCategories built around search demand
Few speed controlsSometimesLighter sections, fewer embeds, sized images

Code injection depends on your Squarespace plan. We confirm what your plan allows during the audit.

What you can still win

Where the rankings come from on a Squarespace jewelry site

Squarespace gives you enough control to compete for collection, product and buying-guide searches. These are the settings and pages we work on.

01

Store structure built on search demand

Buyers search “gold huggie earrings” and “sapphire signet ring”, not your collection names. We set up store categories, or separate store pages where a range needs its own copy and metadata, around the terms people actually type. Depending on your site version and template, category views run on a parameter or their own slug, and we check how yours behaves before deciding which ranges get a standalone page.

02

Product names and descriptions that say what the piece is

“Luna” tells Google nothing. “Luna 14k gold crescent moon necklace” tells it the piece, the metal and the style while keeping your naming. Descriptions cover metal and karat, stone and size, dimensions, chain length, finish, care and how the piece is made. Each product gets its own SEO title and description in the product’s SEO panel.

03

A journal that sells the collection

Squarespace’s blog is one of its strongest SEO tools for designers. Posts on how to stack rings, how to choose a chain length or how recycled gold is refined answer real searches and link to the matching products. Posts that only announce a new drop rarely rank. Our content SEO service builds the topical map behind these posts.

04

Schema added through code injection

Where your plan allows code injection, we add Organization markup with your founder and social profiles, and extra Product fields such as material and brand where the built-in output stops short. We check the result in Google’s Rich Results Test, so the added markup doesn’t conflict with what Squarespace already outputs. See our jewelry schema guide for the types involved.

05

Images that load fast and describe the piece

Squarespace resizes images on its CDN, but it can’t fix a 12MB upload or a homepage built from six full-width galleries. We set an image size standard for uploads, name files after the piece before upload and write alt text that describes the jewelry, not a keyword list.

06

Redirects and hidden pages

Sold-out one-offs and retired collections get 301 redirects through URL Mappings to the closest live range. Thin pages such as old landing pages and test products are hidden from search in page settings, which keeps them out of Google without deleting them.

Commissions and custom work

Turn custom jewelry inquiries into tracked leads

Many Squarespace jewelry brands earn more from commissions than from the shop. Those inquiries need a page of their own and tracking that survives Squarespace’s built-in forms.

  • A custom or bespoke page per service you offer: engagement rings, signet rings, heirloom redesign
  • Process, timeline and starting price guidance stated on the page, so inquiries arrive qualified
  • A consultation form with piece type, budget range and deadline fields
  • Form submissions tracked in GA4 through Google Tag Manager installed via code injection
  • Booking links tagged so you can see which page each consultation came from

If you design custom pieces, our custom jewelry SEO page covers the wider strategy for commission-led businesses.

Stay or move

When a jewelry brand should stay on Squarespace, and when it should move

Moving platforms costs money and carries ranking risk. Do it for business reasons, not because a forum said Squarespace is bad for SEO.

Squarespace SEO questions from jewelry brands

No. It covers the technical basics and gives you control over titles, descriptions, slugs and redirects. Its limits show on large, filter-heavy catalogs. For a designer or small brand, content and structure decide rankings far more than the platform.

No. Squarespace manages robots.txt and the sitemap. You can hide individual pages from search engines in their SEO settings, which covers what most jewelry sites need.

Both. Keep the collection name and add what the piece is: “Luna 14k gold crescent necklace”. The descriptive part matches searches, and the name keeps your brand voice.

Squarespace outputs basic markup automatically. On plans with code injection, extra structured data can be added. It must match what’s on the page and must not duplicate the built-in output, so we test every template after adding it.

Keep the page live if the piece can be remade or commissioned, with a clear note and an inquiry link. If it’s gone for good and has no links or traffic, redirect it to the closest collection through URL Mappings.

When the catalog grows into hundreds of SKUs that buyers filter by shape, carat or metal, or when you need wholesale accounts, a ring builder or multi-currency selling. Otherwise the cost and ranking risk of a migration usually outweigh the gain. When a move is justified, our website design and development team plans it, and our Shopify jewelry SEO page covers the most common destination.
