The short answer
Most jewelry ad accounts are short of control, not budget
Google Ads for jewelers means running Search, Shopping and Performance Max so spend reaches people ready to buy a specific piece or book a viewing, then counting the orders, calls and appointments that follow.
Searches like “lab grown oval engagement ring” come from people close to buying. The same accounts also pay for “jewelry store jobs”, “how to make wire wrapped rings” and “cheap fake diamond earrings”, every day, because nobody reads the search terms.
The second leak costs more. When page views and phone-number taps count as conversions beside purchases, Smart Bidding learns to buy cheap, low-intent actions. The dashboard looks healthy and the store doesn’t feel it.
We close both leaks: campaigns built around buying searches, search terms reviewed daily during spend, and tracking that records orders, connected calls, booked appointments and, where your process allows, the in-store sale that followed the click.
Signs your account is leaking
- Nobody has read the search-terms report this month
- Phone taps or page views count as primary conversions
- Shopping ads run on product names written for the website
- Bridal ads land on the homepage
- Performance Max spend mostly matches your own brand name
- Nobody can say which ads produced last month’s appointments

Where jewelry spend leaks
Six leaks we find in most jewelry accounts
Broad and phrase match reach further than most owners expect, and few people read a few hundred search terms a week.
“Why are we paying for ‘jewelry store jobs near me’?”
Bid on “jeweler near me” in broad match and you buy job searches. Job seekers click because they want to see your store. They never buy.
Job-seeker negatives
“We don’t even do repairs.”
“Ring resizing”, “watch battery” and “appraisal near me” pay off for a store with a bench jeweler. For an online-only brand they’re waste.
Service terms set by business model
“Half our clicks want to make their own jewelry.”
“How to make a beaded necklace” and “jewelry making supplies” want materials or instructions. Good SEO topics, poor paid clicks.
DIY and supplies excluded
“We sell certified diamonds and pay for ‘fake diamond rings’.”
Replica and costume intent never converts for fine jewelry. Neither does “sterling silver” for a store selling only solid gold and platinum.
Material and quality negatives
“Our retail ads keep pulling in wholesale buyers.”
A retailer picks up “wholesale diamond earrings bulk”. A wholesaler picks up couples shopping for one ring. Both pay for the wrong buyer.
Wholesale and retail kept apart
“Our ads show for another jeweler’s name.”
Broad match puts you on a competitor’s store-locator search. As a strategy that can work. As an accident it converts poorly.

Campaign types
Search, Shopping or Performance Max for jewelry
Each does a different job. The mix depends on how you sell and how far your conversion data can be trusted today.
Search
The most controllable campaign type and the starting point for showrooms, bridal specialists and custom jewelers.
Best forBridal, custom design and local “near me” searchesYou controlKeywords, ad copy and landing page per ad groupWatch forText ads can’t show the piece; bridal clicks run expensive
Shopping
The shopper sees the piece and the price before clicking, so the click arrives pre-qualified.
Best forOnline stores selling specific pieces and stylesYou controlProduct groups, custom labels and negativesWatch forResults rise and fall with feed quality
Performance Max
One automated campaign across Search, Shopping, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail and Maps.
Best forExtending reach once tracking and feed are solidYou controlAsset groups, brand exclusions, search-term insightsWatch forLeans on brand searches and remarketing if left alone
Showrooms start with Search. Online stores start with Shopping on a clean feed, plus Search for the highest-intent terms. Performance Max comes in once conversion tracking is trustworthy.
Merchant Center feed
In Shopping, the feed is the ad
Google decides which searches your products appear for largely from the data you submit. A vague feed means vague matching, so when Shopping or Performance Max underperforms, the feed is the first place we look.
- Titles rewritten with metal, stone, type, carat weight and shape, most important words first
- GTIN and brand where they exist, identifier_exists set correctly for custom and one-of-a-kind pieces
- A product_type hierarchy that mirrors your collections: Rings > Engagement Rings > Lab Grown
- Custom labels for margin band, best sellers, season and stock depth
“Eternity Ring” tells Google almost nothing. “14k White Gold Lab Grown Diamond Eternity Ring, 2 ct tw, Round Brilliant” matches far more buying queries and tells the shopper what they’re looking at before the click. We rewrite titles in a supplemental feed or with feed rules, so your product pages stay untouched, and use the five custom labels most stores leave empty to bid harder on high-margin pieces you can supply.
Negative keywords
Negatives filed by category, each with a reason
Blocking every word near a bad search is how accounts exclude their own buyers. Filing by category keeps every exclusion explainable and reversible.
| Category | Example terms | Default action |
|---|---|---|
| Jobs and careers | jewelry store jobs, jeweler salary | Exclude |
| Courses and DIY | jewelry design course, how to make earrings | Exclude unless you sell classes or supplies |
| Free and replica | free jewelry, fake diamond ring, costume | Exclude for fine jewelry |
| Services | jewelry repair, watch battery, appraisal | Depends on your bench services |
| Materials you don’t sell | sterling silver, stainless steel | Exclude by catalog |
| Competitor names | other jewelers, national chains | Exclude, or run a deliberate campaign |
| Research questions | what is a lab grown diamond | Usually leave to SEO |
Each account’s list is built from its own search-terms report and catalog.
Daily review
Search terms read every day while spend is active
The search-terms report shows the searches that actually triggered your ads. With meaningful daily spend, a bad match burns budget within days, so the review runs daily instead of monthly.
- New search terms reviewed daily during active spend
- Negatives added in the right category, at the right level, with a note on why
- Converting phrases promoted to their own keyword, ad group or ad
- The rhythm relaxes as the list stabilizes, and the review continues
Zero conversions is not a verdict. A handful of clicks without a sale proves little. We weigh intent, spend, clicks and on-site behavior before excluding a term, and record why.
Good terms surface too. “Lab grown emerald cut engagement ring 3 carat” converting without its own ad group becomes a new keyword, a new ad and often a new collection page for SEO. Google withholds some search terms for privacy and Performance Max shows fewer, which is why your most valuable terms stay in Search campaigns.
Conversion tracking
Tracking Smart Bidding can trust
Tell Google a page view is a conversion and it finds you page views. Tell it a booked bridal appointment is a conversion and it looks for more of those. Tracking is fixed and tested before spend scales.
01
What counts as a conversion
Purchases with order value, sent once per order (duplicate purchase tags are common on Shopify). Calls from ads and the site, with a minimum duration so hang-ups don’t count. Form inquiries with the product of interest. Bookings at confirmation.
02
Primary and secondary actions
Primary actions steer bidding, so they’re limited to purchases and qualified leads. Add to cart and phone-number taps stay visible as secondary. Leads and appointments carry agreed values, so value-based bidding has something sensible to optimize.
03
Enhanced conversions
Hashed first-party data from checkout or a form lets Google match conversions that cookies alone miss. We implement through Google Tag Manager or the Google tag, confirm in Google Ads diagnostics and check that your consent setup and privacy policy cover it.
04
Showroom sales back to the click
When a lead captured with its click ID buys at the counter days later, offline conversion import sends that sale and its value back to Google Ads. Campaigns then optimize toward buyers. It needs outcomes recorded in a CRM or a shared sheet, which we set up with your team.
Seasonality
Jewelry’s peaks, planned before they arrive
Budgets, ad copy and landing pages are ready before each peak, and budgets come back down as soon as demand drops.
- January to mid-February
Valentine’s Day
Gift searches build through January. Delivery cut-off dates do more work in the ad copy than any discount.
- Late April to early May
Mother’s Day
A short spike in gift and personalized searches: name necklaces, birthstone pieces, pearl studs.
- Late November to February
Proposal season
Engagement ring research and buying concentrate here. For bridal-led stores, appointment capacity has to keep pace with spend.
- Late November to last shipping date
Holiday gifting
The biggest gifting stretch for most stores, carried largely by Shopping and feed accuracy.

What starting costs you
- A review on read-only access

- Ad spend paid directly to Google
- No change goes live without your approval
“Can’t Google’s automation run this on its own?”Automation optimizes toward the goal and data you give it. If tracking counts the wrong things, it scales the wrong things efficiently, and it knows nothing about your margins, stock or appointment capacity. We use automated bidding where the data supports it and control everything that feeds it.“We tried Google Ads and it didn’t work.”Usually the account paid for job seekers and DIY searches while counting phone taps as conversions. The review shows whether that happened and what a controlled restart looks like.“Our Google rep says to move everything to Performance Max.”Performance Max works for jewelers with solid tracking and a clean feed. Without those it finds the cheapest conversions available, often your own brand searches. We add it once the data can support it.“We’d rather put the money into SEO.”SEO takes months on competitive bridal terms. Tight Search campaigns cover that gap, and their search-term data tells SEO which collections to build first. We plan both together.

Google Ads for jewelers: common questions
Yes, for high-intent searches: specific engagement ring styles, custom design, local “jeweler near me” searches, and online stores with a clean Shopping feed. It stops being worth it when the account pays for job seekers, DIY and replica queries, or when tracking can’t separate good spend from bad.
Showrooms, bridal specialists and custom jewelers start with Search. Online stores need Shopping on a clean feed, usually alongside Search. Performance Max adds reach once conversion tracking is reliable. The review ends with a specific mix for your store.
Daily while campaigns are actively spending. Negatives go in by category with a note on why. The rhythm relaxes as the account matures, and search terms stay under regular review.
Yes, when leads are captured with their click data and your team records which ones bought. We import those offline conversions into Google Ads. Until that process exists, appointments and connected calls serve as the primary conversions.
No. A ROAS promise made before seeing your margins, data and tracking is a guess. We commit to disciplined spend, accurate tracking, daily search-term review during active spend and monthly reporting on cost per lead and revenue.
We quote after the review, based on the number of campaigns, feed work, tracking setup and reporting needs. Ad spend is separate and paid from your own account directly to Google.
You do. Google Ads, Merchant Center, GA4 and reporting stay under your business, with our team added as users. If we stop working together, everything stays with you.
Yes. We share search-term data and landing page findings with them. Many clients run paid and organic with us for that reason, through our ecommerce SEO for jewelry service, but it isn’t required.
