Who buys gold online
Four gold buyers, four different searches
Most gold stores serve more than one of these buyers at once. Each needs its own landing pages, its own proof and, in Google Ads, its own campaigns.
The chain buyer
Often a man buying for himself. Searches style, karat, width and length together, and compares weight in grams across stores before buying. Repeat purchases are common once a store earns trust.
The everyday fine gold buyer
Huggies, small hoops, stacking rings and thin chains in 14k. Wants solid gold that won’t tarnish or turn the skin green, and reads the returns policy before checking out.
The gift buyer
Shops by occasion and budget around Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and December. Needs gift-ready packaging, exchange terms and delivery dates stated plainly.
The high-karat buyer
Looks for 22k and 24k pieces, often for weddings and family occasions in South Asian and Middle Eastern traditions. Weight, purity stamp and making charges drive the decision.
How gold buyers search
Karat first, then style, width and length

What Google shows
Gold searches are a price comparison before they’re a store visit
Search “14k solid gold cuban link chain” and Google usually opens with Shopping listings sorted visually by price, then marketplaces, then plated brands using the same words. A solid gold store has to prove the difference inside a title and a thumbnail.
- Shopping titles that lead with karat, solid, style, width and length, in that order
- Weight in grams in the feed and on the page, so a heavier chain doesn’t look overpriced next to a hollow one
- Organic collections named for the style and karat, with copy on solid against hollow construction
- Product photos that show the clasp stamp and the chain on a neck, which buyers compare across tabs
The FTC’s Jewelry Guides say it’s misleading to call an alloy under 10 karat “gold”, and they set the terms for gold filled, gold plated and vermeil. Marketplace listings don’t always follow them. Your pages should, in plain words, because that wording is what separates a solid 14k chain from a plated one in the eyes of a buyer and of Google.

Karat reference
How karat changes the search and the page
Every karat attracts a different buyer and a different price expectation. Your collection copy should say what the karat means, because buyers search that question before they buy.
| Karat | Gold content | Typical buyer focus | Page we’d build |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10k | 41.7% | Price, durability, men’s chains | 10k chains and bracelets |
| 14k | 58.3% | Everyday fine jewelry, the US default | 14k collections by piece and style |
| 18k | 75% | Richer color, bridal and designer pieces | 18k earrings, necklaces, rings |
| 22k | 91.6% | Wedding and family gold, weight-led | 22k sets and bangles, where stocked |
| 24k | 99.9% | Purity, investment-minded buyers | A 24k page only if you stock it |
Gold content is parts of gold per 24. Your keyword data decides which karat pages get built; we never create a page for a karat you don’t stock.
Why gold is hard to rank and convert
Where gold stores lose the search and the sale
These are the three complaints we hear most from gold store owners, and the mechanism behind each one.
“Plated jewelry outranks our solid gold.”
Marketplaces and plated brands use “gold chain” loosely. If your titles don’t say solid 14k, and your copy doesn’t explain solid against hollow, filled and plated, Google and buyers can’t tell you apart from a $20 chain.
Content SEO
“Our prices change with the gold price.”
Repricing by weight is normal in gold. When the site updates and the Merchant Center feed doesn’t, Google flags a price mismatch and Shopping listings drop out. Feed sync frequency is an SEO and Ads problem.
Google Ads
“Chain pages get traffic, nobody buys.”
The buyer can’t see the weight in grams, the clasp type, or how a 4mm chain looks on a neck. Width-on-model photos, a weight column and a clear length guide close more chain orders than more traffic does.
Conversion optimization
Collection structure
A gold catalog built on style, karat and gender
Chain style is the spine for chain stores; piece type is the spine for broader gold catalogs. Karat and gender branch off where there’s demand. Width and length stay as filters, because few buyers search one width alone.
- Chain style collections first: Cuban, rope, Franco, Figaro, box, paperclip
- Karat sub-collections under each style where volume supports them
- Men’s and women’s gold as separate collections with separate copy
- Width, length and price as crawlable-for-shoppers filters, kept out of the index
- Guides on karat, solid against plated and chain sizing linked from each collection
At Goldia we organized wedding bands, earrings and chains by style, metal and length, removed empty collections and redirected them, and resubmitted collections Google hadn’t indexed. The gold collection structure guide covers karat taxonomy and price display in more depth.

Trust signals
The proof a gold buyer zooms in on
Gold buyers know plating exists and they look for evidence that yours isn’t. These details belong on every gold product page, above the fold on mobile.
- Karat in the title and a close-up photo of the karat stamp
- Solid, hollow, gold filled or plated, stated in words
- Weight in grams, with width and length in millimeters and inches
- Clasp type and a photo of the chain worn at each common length
- Returns and exchanges for length and sizing, near the price
The FTC’s Jewelry Guides set out how gold filled, gold plated and vermeil may be described, and buyers who’ve read about it check your wording. The same facts go into Product schema and the Merchant Center feed so Shopping, the product page and AI answers agree.

Local and online
A gold counter competes with “sell gold near me” on the same map
Local gold searches split two ways: people who want to buy jewelry and people who want to sell scrap. A store that serves buyers needs Google to understand which one it is.
- Business Profile categories and products that describe the jewelry you sell, with buying services listed separately if you offer them
- A store page for 22k, bridal gold or men’s chains, whichever your counter is known for
- Reviews that mention pieces and karat, requested after each sale
- Calls and direction requests tracked apart from online orders, so the store’s search value is visible
For stores serving 22k and bridal gold buyers, the map pack often matters more than any collection page, because families want to see sets and weigh pieces in person. Online-first gold brands put that effort into Shopping and collections instead. Either way, we keep scrap-buying searches out of your reporting and out of your ad spend. See local SEO for jewelers.

Seasonality
Gold demand follows gifting and wedding calendars
Gold has more than one peak, and the peaks differ by buyer. Pages and feeds need to be ready about six weeks before each one.
- Jan to Feb
Valentine’s Day
Women’s chains, huggies and pendants as gifts. Gift-by-budget pages and delivery cut-off dates do the converting.
- May to Jun
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day
Two weeks apart in buyer type: dainty 14k pieces in May, men’s chains and bracelets in June.
- Oct to Nov
Festive and wedding gold
Diwali and the wedding season it opens bring 22k sets and bangles into focus for stores that stock them. Dates move each year, so we plan from the calendar.
- Nov to Dec
Holiday gifting
Peak Shopping spend. Feed accuracy and fast chain pages matter most here, so template changes are frozen and price syncs are checked daily.

Before you decide
What gold store owners ask on the first call
Gold has its own concerns, mostly about price volatility and plated competition.
What stays protected
- Existing ranking URLs kept or redirected one to one
- Feed changes tested on a copy before the live feed
- Repricing schedule respected in every template change
The gold price moves every day. Won’t SEO pages go stale?Collections rank on style, karat and construction, not on price. We keep prices out of titles and metas, and the feed carries the live price.Plated sellers outspend us on ads. Can SEO compete?Yes, on the searches that say solid, karat or weight. Those buyers are already filtering out plated jewelry, and they convert at higher order values. We have hundreds of near-identical chains. Do they all need copy? No. Collections carry the copy. Product pages need accurate attributes, real photos and a short unique description, which we template by style. Is the men’s market worth separate work? When you stock men’s chains and rings, yes. The queries, widths and photos differ enough that a mixed page underperforms for both.

Gold jewelry SEO questions
Only where you stock enough pieces and there’s demand. Most US gold stores need 14k pages under each major style, with 10k and 18k added where volume supports them. A karat page with four products rarely ranks.
Usually not. Few buyers search a width alone, and every width and length combination creates a new URL. Keep them as filters and put width and length in product titles and feed attributes, where they help Shopping.
Not the organic rankings. It does affect Shopping: if your feed shows a different price from the product page, Merchant Center can disapprove the listing. We match the feed refresh schedule to your repricing.
Yes, when you stock both. “Mens gold chain” and “gold chain for women” bring different widths, lengths and price expectations, and one mixed collection serves neither well.
Plainly, in titles and descriptions, and in their own collections. The FTC’s Jewelry Guides cover how these terms may be used. Clear labeling protects trust in your solid gold range.
Yes. We separate Shopping by karat and gender, exclude sell-gold and gold-price traffic, and measure purchases by campaign. See Google Ads for jewelers.
Karat, construction, style, width and length, then gender if it matters: “14k Solid Gold Franco Chain, 3.5mm, 22 inch”. Weight in grams goes in the description and the feed. The same values should match across page, schema and feed.
Shopify and WooCommerce both work. The limits that matter are URL control, filter handling and feed apps. See Shopify SEO for jewelry and ecommerce SEO for jewelry.
